For applications requiring an interface between a microwave radio backbone and a 2-way radio system, E&M interfaces can be used to interconnect the two systems. This allows remote communications between radios via the microwave radio backbone beyond the normal coverage area of the individual radio systems.

Microwave Backbone

The Daniels AC-3E control module provides a convenient method to interface two E & M connections to each set of radios in a subrack. The card allows a microwave channel to selectively access local coverage radios at multiple sites. The local radio is typically selected by a tone signaling method, i.e. DTMF or Tone Remote. The local radio may operate as a repeater in "normal" mode and would be addressed through the microwave / dispatch in "remote" mode.
