VoIP (Catalyst or Vega)
For applications where it is advantageous to locate the base station away from the office or dispatch building for a better line-of-site path to repeaters and mobiles, a base station extension via an IP network is possible. A local or wide area network can be used to link the dispatcher and the base station site. Existing (legacy) remote consoles can be supported. A local or wide area network can be used to link the dispatcher and the base station site. The local or wide area network can be used to control the remotely located base station. Using existing network infrastructure eliminates the need for leased lines and microwave sites. Leased lines for a dedicated base station system are expensive to install and maintain if a LAN or WAN is already available at both the base station and dispatch ends. The VoIP Controller Interface or IP Base server is located at the base station radio site, and multiple IP Base remote consoles can be located anywhere there is LAN / WAN access. PTT / COR and audio signals are sent across the LAN / WAN to and from the VoIP Controller Interface or IP Base server (in IP format). The IP Base server connects to a tone remote adapter via a full duplex soundcard, using the tone control of the radio base station.
